Hypnotherapy for Eating Disorders such as Bulimia and Anorexia

Encouraging positive behaviour through hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy for Eating Disorders

Whether you are seeking therapy for yourself or a loved one, or you are living with someone who has an eating disorder, you will likely experience a feeling of anxiety and stress around the home and/or workplace, and this will often have a detrimental effect on relationships.

Mind Connections offers hypnotherapy to those living with eating disorders such as Bulimia Nervosa and Anorexia.  Hypnosis helps you to access the part of your mind that has formed the behaviour or pattern at an unconscious or subconscious level and works to suggest new and more appropriate behaviours, enabling both parts (the conscious and subconscious) to then work in harmony and not conflict.

We also use CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) techniques as well as Past Regression, if appropriate, as this will help you to restructure past experiences by working with future more positive images.

Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia sufferers often don’t look underweight or particularly overweight, although they binge eat. Often eating relieves anxiety or depression for a short while, however this is subsequently followed by a feeling of guilt at having eaten so much, and they will make themselves sick, which becomes a behavioural habit.  The sufferer then becomes pre-occupied with weight and may even take laxatives to rid the body of the food and to prevent weight gain.

This behaviour can be changed through the Mind Connections Hypnotherapy Programme, which may also include Regression, Self-Hypnosis, Inner-Child Healing and CBT approaches. As mentioned above, a restructure of past experiences may also be required, dependent upon what triggered the condition.

Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia is caused by many emotions including anger, fear and anxiety.  There is usually an obsession with quantity of food followed by vomiting/purging and often the use of layers of clothes to cover up weight loss.

Anorexia generally affects young women under the age of 30 years and teenagers who have a fear of being fat, however there have been occasions where men and children as young as 10 years have been treated with this condition.

Hypnotherapy treatment for Anorexia is similar to Bulimia, the most important element is the building of trust and confidence and looking at the whole picture, including how the sufferer feels within the family.  Finding new resources, purpose and identity is part of the treatment process.
