Unconsciously eating when you are stressed means that you eat more than you realise and can become a habit. Training your mind to pay attention and focussing more on what is happening in the now can make a difference to your size and weight. Mindfulness reduces stress and stress is a big factor in causing excess fat around your middle.
Simply by challenging your thoughts and eliminating the “shoulds”,”oughts” and “musts” from our mind and substituting “can”, “would like to”, or “choose to”, you may notice much of the pressure is lifted from you. Most of this is habit and habits can be changed. Every time you feel your shoulders go up or you notice anxiety in your body, notice what is going on in your mind. Ask yourself if you really “have to” do what it is that is stressing you or whether you might change the thought to “I now choose to”. Notice if your stress levels have gone down.
